[:en]Big pop songs and haunting sounds, the battle between light and darkness, courage and depression, digital and analogue: Germany’s IMAGINARY WAR craft music which resonates with its melancholic melodies and quiet anger in a constant but entrancing battle of sound.

Frontman Joki Schaller realizes his musical philosophy in IMAGINARY WAR, preferring seclusion to permanent presence both physically and sonically. Whilst detached from urban life, Joki Schaller and his band create soundscapes that still reflect the industrial coldness that they left behind with analogue sound spheres and disturbing lines about their past and current existence. The sentiment of productive isolation is the lifeblood and driving force of IMAGINARY WAR.

The band uses synthesizers as their sonic basis, heart and origin of sounds but IMAGINARY WAR combine pop sensibilities with their more stark, disturbing compositions. They unite big musical gestures with the love for the perfectly arranged sound detail, intertwining intricate layering with bold electronic melody.

Marked with a notable pensiveness, IMAGINARY WAR are aware of what it means to live in a society divided into two camps “us” and “them” and question: which side do you fall into? You know who you are. The band has made peace with their demons by asking them to dance, and invite you to do the same by joining them at their side.

THE VERGE – out on May 20th, 2016

THE VERGE is IMAGINARY WAR’s second studio album. Within a three year production period, it was fundamental for the band to unfold their creative processes independent from outside influences, so removed themselves the urban surroundings to pour themselves into their new music. The previously released singles, THE WAY WE FEEL and MADE A DECISION show IMAGINARY WAR’s love for floating melodies over epic arrangements. Whereas NEVER FALL APART is propelled forward by stomping electronic beats and an abrasive composition and the album opens with WE RIDE – the most aggressive song the band has ever released. In compact songs that are stretched wide in their arrangements, THE VERGE fills the space between bittersweet pop tunes and industrial inspired sound walls.

Das neue Album THE VERGE erscheint am 20.05.2016

THE VERGE ist IMAGINARY WAR’s zweites Studioalbum. In den drei Jahren Produktionszeit war es für die Band substanziell, sich im kreativen Prozess und der Produktion voll und ungebunden entfalten zu können. Die vorab erschienenen Singles THE WAY WE FEEL und MADE A DECISION zeigen IMAGINARY WAR’s Faible für epische Arrangements und über allem thronende Melodien. Während bei NEVER FALL APART stampfend pulsierende EBM Maschinen nach vorne preschen, setzt die Band aber auch Reizpunkte. Der Opener WE RIDE ist dabei das Aggressivste, was IMAGINARY WAR je veröffentlicht haben. THE VERGE lotet in kompakten Songs und weiten Arrangements den Raum zwischen bittersüßen Pop-Momenten und Industrial-inspirierten Soundbrocken aus.
